16th century In the 16th century the property was mentioned by name for the first time. By the 19th century it was known as „Würzburger“ brewery, the biggest brewery in the region.
1925 In 1925 the Gösser Brewery acquired the restaurant.
1931 In 1931 Franz Wanik took over the business and improves hospitality with great effort.
1944 In 1944 the Wanik family faced the ruins of rockets destroying the beer halls during the war. This part of the inn wasn’t rebuilt anymore, yet chestnut trees were planted giving the beer garden its charm today.
1955 From 1955 Johann and Ehrentraud Wanik continued the family tradition of running the „Gösser“. Celebrities from Austria and abroad have enjoyed stays at the restaurant and hotel.
1986 In 1986 the third generation of the family took over the restaurant with lots of new ideas.
1995 In 1995 the restaurant and beer garden was remodeled by keeping the inn’s traditional style.
1998 The hotel was renovated in 1998, creating 21 elegant hotel rooms, each one decorated individually.
2000 In 2000, the idea of using the beer garden space also during winter lead to the creation of the Christmas market, which is famous for its unique atmosphere.
Today Today the Hotel Gösserbräu is a modern restaurant with a cozy hotel and and a famous beer garden in the region of Upper Austria.
